Sewer, as well as toilets, tubs, lavatories, grease traps, and restaurant safe waste systems are some of the things in the sewer
and drain department that we service.
A backed-up sewer line is no fun! Whether it is full of roots, or the line is separated from being installed improperly, or if you live in an older home and have the old clay, or Orangeberg, (that's tar coated cardboard material) which has a tendency to give way to the weight of the dirt, causing the pipe to become somewhat ovaled on its way to flattening out. This generally takes several years to occur and was installed in older homes.
The adverse effect being, you can't run a root cutter down the line without putting the sewer in worst shape, possibly tearing holes in the pipe. A camera is handy to see what's going on.
There is more than one way to unstop a sewer depending on the problem that's taking place. If roots have infiltrated the sewer,
generally a drum type sewer machine with 3/4 cable and a root cutting tip will be appropriate. Some homes have "clean out" access for the sewer up near the home or down by the street,
or both. If the clean-out access at the street is holding water, this usually indicates the problem is on the county side and can be addressed by them, although this depends on the individual
situation.
Roots usually infiltrate the sewer line when something happens to cause the sewer to leak. The roots seek out the water and grow right in. If PVC pipe is just glued and not glued and primed, the pipe can pull apart where it was glued causing a leak to attract roots.
